We do not need categories at all. Personally I do not look at the official category until I solve a puzzle. It is more interesting not to know what to expect.

As long as there is no ranking, a category is useless

I detect a hint of a request for ranking to be restored but no explanation as to why. Ranking served little purpose except competition, as in I am better than you. I do not miss it.
